title pic Valentines day!

Posted by admin on February 14th, 2009

This is for my ladies who are in a not-so-great relationship. Even the men, too.

Happy Valentines day everyone! I hope you and your sweetheart are getting along nicely on this “special day.”

Uh oh, here we go…

The reason I quoted “special day” was because, while I do wish that you and yours have a wonderful day today, I also wish that you have a wonderful day tomorrow, that you had a wonderful day yesterday, and that for the rest of the year you have nothing but wonderful days. Perhaps that’s unrealistic to hope for, but it’s no more realistic than the goals people set for themselves in most relationships anyway.

Personally I’ve had fights on Valentines day, and then had other days where it felt like Valentines day but it wasn’t February 14th.

So while this post is short and sweet, it has a very powerful message: Celebrating a relationship or romance or love or kindness with one another doesn’t have to be one day a year. Strive to make it every day, even though that probably won’t happen. But, really, why have a relationship if you don’t at least try to take joy in each other most of the time?

When looking at a relationship where people are miserable for a long time but still trying to make it work, I can’t, for the life of me, understand why. Holding onto things that keep you frowning, worrying or crying most of the time is how people get sick. Personally, I think it’s how a lot of people wind up dead. Stress, misery and sadness is a powerful force.

Life is too short, and while it’s impossible to be happy all the time, it’s important to remember that if you’re crying more than you’re laughing, if you’re frowning more than you’re smiling (with the exception for February 14th), rethinking things might be the best course of action.

Don’t get swept up in the falsehood of a Valentines day happiness when the rest of the year is filled with miserable or even non exciting days. Don’t settle for just one day a year!

Posted by admin on January 22nd, 2009

What a woman chooses as her deodorant is just as important as the type of clothes she’s picking out for a first date — or for an important business meeting (because we women are capable of a lot more than dating). Of course we want a deodorant that will keep perspiration at bay, and something that will last through out the day (or evening). But what about something that just naturally smells good? Where you could smell it from an entire yard away? — Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, LOL, but the other day I was shopping and bought this new deodorant I never tried before. Women Degree – Shower Clean – Invisible Solid – Body Responsive. It also promised on the bottle to work in sync with my body — something I really didn’t understand until later.

Anyway, I picked it up without thinking, and I’m very glad that I did. The smell of this deodorant is intoxicating — shower clean doesn’t quite describe it. The best thing about this deodorant was it worked with me the entire day! Just as it said on the bottle. “Works in sync with your body.” It means it won’t wear out or run out, no matter what you do.

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2009

You can buy this wonderful Vitamin E Cream by Colonial Dames cheap for under 10 dollars. If you have dry skin or you just want to look younger, applying this cream will do the trick. I’ve used it before and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This Vitamin E Cream help fade and lighten old scars that I desperately wanted to cover up, and made my skin baby smooth. This product is 25% vitamin E so in a 4oz jar you get 1 pure ounce of E — that’s alot more than what most vitamin E creams will give you.

I personally know a slew of older women that have used this for years and look a lot younger than their years. This Vitamin E cream delivers all around. Try it, you won’t be disappointed and it won’t hurt your wallet.

title pic Isokinetics Magnetic Pedal Exerciser – Review

Posted by admin on December 17th, 2008

I bought this exerciser because originally I had wanted an exercise bike but I don’t have the space for it. When I realized that this little thing also can be used for your arms I felt that was an added bonus. You can’t ride an exercise bike upside down, afterall. In my opinion you get twice the workout with this machine that you would from a regular exercise bike, and this exerciser can be stored away in a small space.

I purchased this product on Amazon.Com for $99.00 on sale a few months ago and since then I have noticed a marked improvement in circulation. I also notice that my arms are less flabby. This is a good thing. It’s very sturdy and quiet. it does not move when even when you have it on the hardest tension and you can change the tension as you get stronger to make it harder to pedal. The resistance is not overly extreme, but it does the job. There is a built in handle that makes it incredibly easy to move from place to place.

To use it with your arms, you simply put it on a table or counter top. I mean, you could probably sit on the floor and do it but that’s not very comfortable. If you are handicapped, this is also an excellent exerciser because you can exercise your legs while sitting down in a chair. My favorite thing about this is the fact that I can use it while I’m surfing the net, watching tv, or reading a book on the sofa.

title pic Cheap Eyeglasses

Posted by admin on December 17th, 2008

Prescription eyeglasses can be very costly, especially when you throw in the cost of the eye exam and the fact that if you wear glasses you usually need a new prescription every year. That’s why when I saw that was practically giving away eyeglasses for the incredibly low price of $15 USD, I had to share it. At such a low cost, you can not only actually afford your eye glasses, but you can probably afford several different pair to go with your wardrobe. That means wearing a different style each day of the week, or to match whatever you happen to be wearing may be more of a possibility than a wish for some of us.

Something else to consider is the state of our economy and the fact that some of us are lucky to be able to put food on the table right now much less spend money on things like medication and eyeglasses. So to be able to buy a complete set of prescription eyeglasses for $15 is a great help. Optical4Less also offers free shipping if you order more than 1 pair, and at that price I’m pretty sure most people would. Anyway, if you wear glasses and are in need of a cheaper alternative than the local places in your area, check out Optical4Less.Com.

title pic My recipe for Scampi sauce.

Posted by admin on December 17th, 2008

I personally love scampi over chicken cutlets and brown rice. Why brown rice? Because it’s much more filling than white rice and doesn’t make you as tired. Plus it has less carbohydrates and is much more healthier for you.

I use Texmati’s Long Grain Brown Rice:

It’s slightly more expensive and takes a little longer to cook but in my opinion it’s totally worth it. Just follow the directions on the back.

While that is cooking, be sure to bread and bake or fry up your boneless, skinless chicken cutlets. I’m sure almost everyone knows how to bread chicken cutlets. I personally prefer unseasoned breadcrumbs and to bake my chicken cutlets, but that’s just me.

FYI: Baking breaded chicken cutlets is much healthier than frying them up in a pan.

And now for the scampi sauce recipe. It’s very easy. It calls for…

1 Tablespoon of Butter.
1 Teaspoon of Olive Oil.
1/2 Tablespoon of Crushed Garlic – I prefer buying the garlic that comes in the jar for this recipe.
A dash of Salt.
A dash of Pepper.
Two cups of freshly squeezed lemon juice – the most important ingredient. It HAS to be fresh, and NOT from concentrate. That can ruin the whole thing. Trust me, I know. Haha.

Mix 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a pan until the butter melts just a little bit.

Then add your 1/2 tablespoon of garlic along with a small pinch of pepper and salt. Mix it and make sure it doesn’t stick. Wait about three minutes until the butter is melted fully and add your two cups of freshly squeezed lemons.

Let it come to a boil and then take it off the flame and that’s it! You’re done.

Very easy. 🙂

Put it into a dish with your chicken cutlets and rice – preferably with the chicken cutlets on top of the rice – and pour on the scampi.

title pic PMS.

Posted by admin on December 17th, 2008

P. M. S. Three little lovely letters that no one wants to go through – either themselves or vicariously through others. It seems that when PMS strikes, it isn’t just one person that suffers, it’s mostly everyone else. Luckily we have people who are sympathetic to premenstrual syndrome, that know that it isn’t all in a woman’s head, but rather something that is biological and chemical. We now know that premenstrual syndrome has several causes, and don’t just have to happen only when a woman is getting her period.

Here are a couple of causes:

  • Medication – Birth Control has been known to trick a womans body into physically thinking she’s pregnant. Women on birth control, as well as women who are pregnant, often get mood swings, cravings, weird sleeping habits, cramps, headaches, etc. Do any of these also sound like PMS symptoms to anyone else? It also makes me wonder what other medication can cause such symptoms.
  • Allergy to food – This may sound weird, but sometimes certain foods you eat can cause weird chemical reactions within you. White flour pasta personally makes me extremely tired, which I found out from a few people is an allergic reaction to pasta. Other foods, like chocolate, sugar, caffeine, etc, can lead to an unstable amount of blood sugar levels – which can cause you to be tired, or irritable and moody. I knew a woman who would eat a pastrami sandwich and a big pretzel anytime she was about to get her period. Afterward, without fail, her attitude would change and she would become the nastiest person to deal with. Finally someone brought this out to her attention that after she ate those two foods combined she became unberable, and she finally stopped. Do you want a bet that her attitude stopped being so intolerable after she stopped eating that certain food?

Can you imagine living back in the late 1800s and early 1900s when doctors would label these poor women going through biological changes in their body as unstable or insane? I wonder how many poor women got locked up because of “hysteria”, something that no one really knew about – and possibly no one even cared about.

My grandmother is from a time when “PMS” was looked upon as something mythical just so that women had an excuse to be “bitchy” or “lazy”. She still rolls her eyes when one of her daughters or grand-daughters say something like “oh I’m getting my period.” My grandmother will say something like “we never used to talk about these things” or “PMS never existed in my day.”

It’s like equating PMS to “Restless Leg Syndrome” – which IS nonsense in my opinion.

I’m glad we no longer live in my grandmothers day, if only for that reason.
